Jewelry Care
Dust, pollutants, cosmetics, creams and perfumes can dull the brilliance of a gemstone and affect the surfaces of gold vermeil and sterling silver. We recommend that you take the time to properly store and care for your jewelry, as we are not responsible for the maintenance of your pieces. Crowfoot Collective will not be held accountable for items damaged due to wear and tear. Treat your pieces with love and care, and you will be enjoying them for years to come! Here are a few tips to keep your jewelry looking brand new. Always remove your jewelry before getting in the shower and when performing tasks, like cleaning, gardening, using chemicals or going to the gym. Apply make-up and hair spray before putting your jewelry on, as these products contain chemicals which may damage your jewelry Do not wear your jewelry while in the sea, hot tub or while bathing. Salt water, chlorine in swimming pools, soap, perfume and personal products (including perspiration) take a toll on jewelry! Because many genuine gemstones are quite delicate, hot water, harsh chemicals and cleaners should be avoided at all times. Very porous stones such as opals, pearls, and emeralds should be gently cleaned using an untreated, soft dry cloth only. We do not recommend the use of any jewelry polishing cloths.
Proper storage helps to prevent scratching of the gemstones or metals. We recommend that you store your jewelry individually, in the pouch and jewelry box provided with your order. This will also prevent tangling. You may also store your pieces individually in airtight bags or containers. This protects them from air and light, both of which cause the metals to oxidize and slowly tarnish over time. Be careful not to place heavy objects on top of your jewelry during storage, and to be gentle when putting on or removing your jewelry. Protect your jewelry from scratches, sharp blows, chemicals, extreme temperatures and sunlight. Do not be tempted to leave your jewelry on the bathroom or kitchen sink as the jewelry is at risk of sitting in water. Do not store your jewels next to heating vents, windowsills, or in the car.
When taken care of properly, Gold filled wears similarly to solid gold, and can last for many years. Avoid using a polishing cloth or jewelry cleaner on your gold filled pieces, as some of the chemicals found in these products are abrasive and will cause tarnishing or damage the piece. To keep your gold filled pieces shiny and clean, rinse in warm water and a mild, soap-based detergent. Soak your jewelry for no more than 30 seconds to a minute in the water. Never use tissue or paper-based material to clean the pieces as they can scratch. Gently pat dry with a soft, clean cloth. Air dry overnight before putting away, as excessive moisture when stored can corrode or tarnish the pieces.
Vermeil jewelry pieces are delicate jewelry items, and require special care. Remember to remove your Vermeil pieces before applying perfumes, lotions, or hair spray and while preforming tasks like cleaning, showering or bathing. We suggest you avoid wearing gold vermeil jewelry while in the ocean or while in a pool or hot tub, and would also recommend trying to avoid moist and acidic environments where possible. To clean, buff VERY gently with a soft and dry 100% cotton cloth. Never use chemical cleaners, water, or soaps on gold vermeil jewelry, as they can strip the gold finish. Air dry overnight before putting away, as excessive moisture when stored can corrode or tarnish the pieces. It is natural for gold vermeil jewelry to tarnish with time – it adds character to the piece. As rings are worn on the hand, they will often tarnish more quickly than necklaces or earrings. Try to remember to remove your rings before doing dishes or washing your hands!
It is best to keep your pieces away from harsh chemicals, chlorines, perfumes, etc. as these do take a toll on your precious jewels. Sterling silver may be gently cleaned with a jewelry cleaning cloth every so often. When cleaning, buff carefully, following the grain of the piece. Avoid polishing pieces that are intentionally oxidized, as this will loosen the metal. Be sure to clean the silver only, and avoid polishing the stones!
Each Claire Crowfoot Jewelry beaded bracelet is made from the highest quality materials. These materials are often cut from natural sources and the use of hairsprays, lotions, colognes or perfumes can alter the natural state of the materials used. For this reason, our bracelets are highly sensitive to water, and wearing them while sleeping, showering, exercising, or in a pool or sauna should be avoided. These elements can weaken the elastic cord that holds the bracelet together and can contribute to breakage in the future if not cared for properly. To ensure the longevity of your beaded bracelet, ROLL the bracelet on or off your arm, rather than pulling, stretching, or tugging on the beads. Repetitive tugging and pulling will cause the elastic to weaken and break over time. To maintain the beauty of your beaded bracelets, we recommend cleaning the beads by using a small amount of mineral oil on a soft, white cloth.
Dust, pollutions, cosmetics, creams and perfumes can dull the brilliance of a gemstone. Always gently wipe off excess make-up and skin oils after wearing your jewelry. Use a nub free, 100% cotton cloth and gently wipe the piece clean. Apply make-up and hair spray before putting your jewelry on, as make up and hair spray contain chemicals which can damage jewelry. Avoid water, and use care, especially with Pearls, Coral, Amber, Opals, and Emeralds. Always store your gemstones separately to avoid scratches from harder gems. Protect softer stones like Opals, Lapis, Turquoise, Amber and Malachite by wrapping them in jeweler’s tissue before storing. All gemstones are affected by sunlight and temperature, but Pearls and Opals are particularly sensitive. Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, perfumes and all household chemicals. Remove your jewels when doing household tasks such as gardening or cleaning.
Because each gemstone is a beautiful gift from the Earth, no two will ever be exactly alike. The raw nature of the gemstones means that each one will embody a little something different from one to the next. Everything in pairs will be matched to the best of our ability, but there will always be minute differences. Please keep in mind that your Gemstone may not be identical to the one in the website photo.
Materials Used
Claire Crowfoot Jewelry is handcrafted with the highest quality materials. Care should be taken with each piece as they are created with natural gemstones and thin, delicate chains. Our pieces are available in three difference types of metal, all three of which require different care. Check the description, available on each product’s page, to see which metal your piece is created from.
Gold Fill is not plated, and indicates jewelry with a thick layer of 14k solid gold, that has been bonded to a base metal (usually brass) using heat and pressure. 14k gold fill is an excellent alternative to solid gold, as it is much more economical, yet it will not flake or fade away. When cared for correctly, gold fill can wear like solid gold for a number of years.
Our pieces are made with 0.925 solid Sterling Silver, which is certified as having 92.5% pure silver, plus 7.5% of an alloy (usually copper).
Gold vermeil is made entirely of precious metals. It is an overlay of gold, plated on a base of sterling silver. All of our gold vermeil is either 22k or 24k gold. We use 3 micron gold plating, which ages to a 10k colour with wear. We do not offer re-plating of our gold vermeil designs.
Candle Care and Questions
Each and every candle that we sell is created by our hands, in our studio on Vancouver Island.
We are thoughtful and intentional about every aspect of our products, from our ingredients to our packaging.
We use a blend of Garden-Grown Botanicals, Essential oils, and our own hand made Infusions and Tinctures in all of our Candles.
We blend these with natural fragrances, and clean synthetic fragrances in our Core Collection. The natural fragrances we use are plant-based aromatics that are produced using pure essential oils and aromatic isolates derived solely from natural, raw botanical sources.
We are excited to announce that we will soon be launching a Collection made entirely from 100% essential oils. Every candle we create is paraben free, phthalate free and cruelty free.
Yes! All of our packaging is made from post-consumer recycled goods, and can be recycled.
We take responsibility for our environmental impact by choosing recyclable paper materials
over plastic whenever possible, and reusable glass bottles instead of plastic.
Our packing peanuts are not styrofoam, they are made of corn and completely compostable.
We use a propriety blend of 100% natural coconut, soy and organic Cowichan Valley beeswax. The beeswax is a lovely hard wax, which allows the candle to burn longer than average. The coconut wax provides a beautiful, soft creamy surface and a lovely scent throw. The soy wax we use is certified carbon neutral, and an annually renewable resource. It is also vegan, biodegradable and 100% plant-based.
No! Definitely not. We use a a non-toxic cotton core wick in our candles. Our Wooden Wicks are 100% Natural wood from Sappy Fruit Trees sustainably sourced in the USA. They are created from wood species not listed in the CITED appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Our 10.5 oz candles candles burn for 80 hours, and our 14oz candles burn for over 100 hours when taken care of properly! That’s a lot of burn time.
Because of our carefully blended wax recipe, if you take care of your candle it will last for an exceptionally long time!
The first time you burn your candle, You will need to let it burn for at least 3 uninterrupted hours. This will ensure that the wax melts all the way to the edges of the jar. This is especially important for the first burn, as it creates a 'memory burn' which prevents tunnelling; ensuring you get to use all of the wax.
Allow the melt pool to reach the edges of the jar before blowing out the flame. After 3 hours, extinguish your candle.
Keep the wick centred and wax free of debris
This one is very important:
Trim the wick to ¼” before each lighting. Trimming the wick will ensure that the candle burns evenly. It will eliminate any soot or char on the wick, and prevent any smoking of the wick.
If your wick smokes when extinguished, you didn’t trim your wick enough. Try blowing it out, trimming it, and relighting.
Make sure to burn your candle on a stable, heat-safe surface away from
drafts and flammable materials. When it's burning, keep your candle in sight, away from children and pets.
During use, the glass may become warm so allow it to cool before handling it.
Absolutely! Our vessels are food-grade whiskey glasses, but they can be used for whatever you would like. Try planting a seed in yours and watching it sprout!
Our Apothecary Goods are deeply intentional and thoughtful pieces.
We created them to help others find connection. Connection to Self and Connection to Creator. Lawrence turned to his Culture for solace when he lost his father suddenly. Ancient Ritual and Tradition lifted him up and allowed him to process his grief. He believes that everyone should experience the healing power of Ceremony, and we created our pieces around this core belief.
We want to bring Ancient Ceremony and Ritual into your home in a modern, easily accessible modality. Our products are intended to help you heal and nourish your physical, emotional and mental self through Connection.
