One Dip at a Time: The Making of Our Chubby Beeswax Tapers

One Dip at a Time: The Making of Our Chubby Beeswax Tapers

Some things cannot be rushed. Our Chubby Beeswax Tapers begin with a simple cotton wick and are built slowly, patiently and with care—one dip at a time.

Each pair is made by hand using pure, locally sourced Cowichan Valley beeswax. The wax is gently warmed until it reaches the right temperature and consistency, then the cotton wick is lowered into the wax and lifted out again. Slowly. Patiently. A fine layer of beeswax clings to the wick and is allowed to cool before the next dip begins.

The rhythm is simple, but the process requires patience. Dip, lift, cool and repeat. More than 50 individual dips are needed to create the generous width of each Chubby Taper. Every pass adds another delicate layer of wax, gradually transforming a slender cotton wick into a substantial candle.

Temperature matters throughout the process. If the wax is too warm, the previous layers can soften. If it is too cool, the surface may build unevenly. We work slowly, watching the wax and giving every new layer the time it needs to settle.

Z Tiny variations in shape and surface are part of its character. No two pairs are exactly alike, and that is precisely what makes them beautiful.

The rounded form of the Chubby Taper is achieved entirely through repetition. We dip patiently and with care, time and time again, until the desired width is reached. The candles remain joined at the wick as a quiet reminder of how they were made.

The beauty of natural beeswax

Natural beeswax has a warm golden colour and a subtle honeyed scent that comes from the wax itself. When lit, it creates a soft, steady glow that feels especially at home at the table, beside a bath or anywhere a little ritual is welcome.

Our Moss Chubby Tapers receive their earthy green colour from natural botanical dyes. Because these dyes come from nature, the shade may vary slightly from pair to pair. We see those small differences as part of the candle’s story.

More than 50 dips. More than 50 moments of lifting, cooling and beginning again. The finished candle carries all of that time within its layers.

Our Chubby Beeswax Tapers are made for slow dinners, quiet mornings and evenings when you want the room to feel a little warmer. Light one, let the flame settle and enjoy something made patiently from beginning to end.
